Metro Phoenix is often lauded for its housing affordability, but it rarely receives kudos for having the best K-12 schools.
A neighborhood in Chandler has landed in a top 10 ranking for both categories in a new national real estate ranking.
Central Chandler’s 85226 ZIP code ranks No. 8 for a top affordable area with the best high schools and No. 9 for elementary schools.
It is the only Arizona city to make the list.
The ranking cites Chandler’s median income of $80,130 and the current list price for homes of $323,155, saying those make it 20 percent more affordable than the U.S. overall.
The median home sales price in the 85226 ZIP code is $312,000, according to Street Scout.
Javier Vivas, manager of economic research for Realtor.com, said affordable homes near good schools are key for families with young children.
Aurora, Illinois, ranked No. 1 for affordable housing near the best elementary schools. Royersford, Pennsylvania garnered the top ranking for high schools.
