The founder of a Tempe based general contracting company purchased a $5.85 million home in Paradise Valley, topping this week's priciest home sales in metro Phoenix.

James Chamberlain paid cash through a trust for a hillside estate in Paradise Valley.

Chamberlain owns Sun State Builders, which he founded in 1973. The design-build company, according to its website, is behind numerous office, industrial and retail buildings in metro Phoenix, from Papago Reserve Office Building in Tempe to Alliance Bank in Chandler. 

Chamberlain purchased the 9,471-square-foot estate on the south side of Mummy Mountain that has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

The two-story mansion has multiple balconies and patios that offer panoramic views of the Valley. The home features vaulted ceilings, a recently renovated chef’s kitchen and a private wine cellar.

Grounds of the three-acre lot estate include a pool, an outdoor kitchen and a five-car garage.

Lanny and Marlene Lahr sold the house.

Gary and Mary Kay Owen paid cash through their trusts for a mansion with a game room in Scottsdale’s Silverleaf at DC Ranch community.

The 6,578-square-foot custom built home was completed in 2016 and has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

The two-story mansion features a front courtyard, custom lighting, tile wainscot in each bathroom suite and French oak wood plank flooring throughout. The home has a Savant smart-home system and comes with a built-in laundry chute and dual washer and dryers.

Grounds of the estate include a pool, an oversize four-car garage and a guest casita with a private entrance.

Adam and Nichole Stine sold the house through a family trust.

D. Scott and Rebecca Nordlund, through a family trust, purchased a 0.7-acre plot of land in Scottsdale’s White Horse community.

The property will be a single-family residence, according to a Maricopa County Recorder Office document.

White Horse 50 LLC, an Arizona limited-liability company, sold the property.

Robbert Heederik and Petra Ketelaars of Willow Springs, Illinois, purchased a two-story house in Fountain Hills' Adero Canyon community.

The 0.71-acre lot estate has 3,998 square feet and was built in 2017.

Toll Brothers AZ Limited Partnership, an Arizona limited partnership, sold the home.

Gregory and Jennifer Holmes of San Carlos, California, paid cash through a family trust for a gated mansion with a pool in Scottsdale's Desert Mountain community.

The 7,827-square-foot mansion has four bedrooms and six bathrooms.

The two-acre lot estate has scenic mountain views and includes a four-car garage, a guest house and a backyard putting green.

John A. Chandler sold the house.
